What
is the purpose of the chapter and how will I benefit from joining?
- To support and encourage concerns
and interests of nurse-midwives and nurse-midwifery students
- To encourage nurse-midwives to be
active participants in functions relating to the ACNM
- To increase public knowledge of
nurse-midwives and the realm of nurse-midwifery
- To promote communications with other
organizations which affect maternal-child care
- To support and promote the philosophy
of the ACNM
- To support and promote communication
and professional achievement among nurse-midwives
- To provide continuing education
opportunities

Who
can join (what are the Membership Categories and requirements for
joining)?
To join, you must be a member of the ACNM,
residing or practicing in Tennessee.
Membership categories (based on ACNM
membership):
- Active Membership
– College or ACNM Certification Council, Inc (ACC) certified
nurse-midwives shall be accepted as active members
- Associate Membership
– An active member who wishes associate membership shall be
eligible if she/he becomes a full-time student; is actively engaged
in missionary or organized volunteer services; is retired; is
disabled or is not employed.
- Student Membership
– A person eligible for student membership is one who is enrolled
in a nurse-midwifery or midwifery education program accredited by,
or with pre-accreditation status from, the ACNM Division of
Accreditation or a graduate who is still eligible to complete the
certification process.

What
are the privileges of membership?
- Active
– may chair committees, make motions, vote and hold office.
- Associate
– may chair committees, make motions, vote and hold office except
the office of chairperson.
- Student
– may serve on committees and are encouraged to participate;
however, they may not make motions, vote nor hold office.

Standing Committees
- Legislation
– to keep the chapter abreast of current health related
legislation and to keep the legislative committee of the ACNM
informed of issues at the local level.
- Public Relations
– to promote communication with other organizations involved in
maternity care; to help educate the community about nurse-midwifery
practice
- Archives –
to keep a record of the history of nurse-midwifery within the state
- Peer Review
– to develop, plan, provide materials and implement peer review
for services in the state requesting peer review
- Ad hoc committees as needed

How
much are dues and when are meetings held?
Active Member: $30/year
Associate/Student: $15/year
Meetings are generally held 3 times per
year. Look for meetings as posted on our Home
page.
